Committee

Tilehouse Street Pre-school and Nursery is a charity, and managed by a committee of parent and community volunteers who are the trustees of the charity.

The Trustees are elected in September and receive training in safeguarding and the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage and meet regularly to oversee the smooth running and development of the setting and its provision.  Many trustees serve for more than one year.

As well as looking after the management of the Pre-school and Nursery, they also collect feedback, raise funds and carry out marketing and publicity for the setting.

If you are interested in finding out more about the work of the trustees, please speak to the setting Manager.

Phil Earl

“I’m Phil and I’ve been a Trustee since 2015.  I’m dad to three boys, all of whom have gone through Tilehouse, with the last going on to primary school in September 2022.  I joined the committee because I wanted to get more involved with my children’s education.  Commuting to a full-time job in London meant I wasn’t normally around much during the day, so being a trustee gave me an opportunity to support the setting in a different way.  During that time I’ve learnt a huge amount about Early Years education, and running a small business.  It’s great fun – and rarely predictable!”

Claire Day

My name is Claire Day.  I am a retired School Admissions Registrar and Headmaster’s PA.

I became a Trustee because I am interested in being involved in the running of the nursery.  Two of my grandchildren attended a few years ago, and my son attended in the early 1990s.

I have now become the Designated trustee safeguarding person for the setting.
Nitin Parsooth

I am Father to Tiya who is now in the butterfly class. Tiya absolutely loves the nursery and cannot wait to get there every morning. She is developing with confidence and making new friends. Our plan is for our second child to also attend the nursery.

I became a trustee as I really wanted to get involved in the governing and safeguarding of the nursery. I am glad to have the opportunity to support in this way.

Lara Freeman

I am a stay-at-home mum of two boys and my youngest son now attends the Butterfly class, previously the caterpillar class last year. I joined the committee as I wanted to have the opportunity to understand the running of the pre-school and nursery and be able to provide an input to help ensure that it provides the very best care for my son and the other children that attend. I previously worked in PR and managed busy campaigns and media team. I haven’t worked since my first son was born and would like the opportunity to offer my skills and hopefully learn some new ones.

Kerry Hudson

I’m Kerry, I am a baby and toddler swimming teacher and a mum of two girls, Megan and Emelia. Megan has now left Tilehouse Street to start her new journey at primary school and Emelia has moved from the Caterpillar to the Butterfly class. Both my girls enjoy(ed) their time at Tilehouse Street with the various activities on offer and the bonds they have made with the staff and their friends. Being a trustee allows me to be more involved in the learning and development of my children and to help and support the setting in any way that I can.

Paul Smyth

Hi, my name is Paul Smyth, elected Chair of Trustees for 2022/23

I joined the committee as a trustee in 2019 (Secretary Role 2021-2022)

I am father to daughter Emilia-Rose who attended Tilehouse Street 2019-2021 which she thoroughly enjoyed in readiness for her school journey.

I live and work in Hitchin specialising in retail compliance management, I am also involved with supporting the local community in the role as community lead.

I am proud to be associated with the setting as the Chair of the committee where I once attended as child myself.

This gives me the opportunity to contribute and assist to the aims/future of the setting, acting in the best interest of the charity enhancing children education in a safe environment.
